Hello brothers and sisters.
I want to thank the members who chose to take advantage of the membership drive in Jan. and Feb. It’s nice to see people who believe in what the moose does. And want to be a part of it. Thank you all. Speaking of it’s nice to see. How about the turn out of members seeking to hold an office? I’m digging that. It is so nice to see the membership taking an interest in the operations of this lodge. Keep it up.
We have a St. Patrick’s day celebration on Sat. the 13th of this month. Corned beef and cabbage, red taters. ummmm good. And speaking of good food, I would like to clear up a misconception. When the Moose Riders do breakfast, they do a wonderful job of it. They do all of the regular menu items, plus Charles makes his now renowned pancakes. Truly worth the effort to get out of bed on a Sunday morning. Then we are going to Anaheim for the district chili cook off on the 20th. 10am come out and support your favorite chili. The mid year conference, in Reno, is at the end of the month. Dennis and I will be there representing our fine lodge. So be nice to Paulie and Jan. They will be acting Dennis and Susie. Please be nice.
This has been a really good month for me. Nothing and/or no one upset me this month. We received a silver rating award for family activities. And like I said nobody ticked me off. However, not so for others. Our lodge is run by volunteers. Everyone who pours a drink, cooks a meal, serves a meal, cleans up after a meal, runs a fund raiser, a raffle, a 50/50, a drawing, karaoke, bingo, holds a seat as an officer, elected or appointed, is a volunteer. And the last thing a volunteer wants to hear is someone telling them ”This is s#*t “. And if I had heard this taking place, there would have been a lot more cussing. No one would have liked that. I might have had to resign. I’m constantly trying to get people to volunteer. Why would anyone want to subject themselves to that sort of abuse? To all of the volunteers, I thank you, and I’m sorry for the less than gratuitous behavior of a few of our members.
I’m reminded of a story I heard years ago. A man had lost his home to a mudslide all of his most precious possessions lost. He was serving meals at a relief center. Someone thanked him for coming out to help those in need. He said I’m one of you, thank you for letting me help, it makes me feel better. I feel better helping out around here. Maybe you would too. Be a volunteer.
